Larkly: A Foundation of Joy and Adventure
Larkly wasn’t just pulled out of thin air. It took time, energy, and a lot of teamwork to create the perfect mix of safe and effective ingredients to fill a gap in the sun care market–and make a product that their kids would want to put on. Once the formula was perfected through, it was time to dig deep and name this revolutionary formula. We wanted a name that encapsulated the fullness of not only our product, but the message we were trying to spread as well—to encourage others to live their most adventurous lives everyday (and to not forget their sunscreen!).
Kerri and Sarah brainstormed for days, surrounded by a creative team of people who encouraged them to dig deep and find the perfect name for their “baby”. They discussed key topics like love, joy, adventure. Freedom. Travel. Family. Traditions. Setting your own path in life. The team then took it a layer deeper, and discussed meanings and synonyms that sparked emotions in them and they thought about what they wanted their sunscreen brand to represent.
Interestingly, the lark bird kept coming up. A lark is the only bird that sings in flight. They are symbolic of joy, hope, and laughter. Larks start singing at sunrise, scattering brightness and warmth with their high-spirited songs. These birds are cheerful, and remind us to find joy in our own lives. Larks are symbolic of joy, hope, and laughter; a vision of adventure, and of setting your own path in life. After a weeklong brainstorming session in the coolest Brooklyn studio, the name finally came to them.
It was perfect. And so, Larkly was born.
Our mascot, Lenny? He’s pretty cute too. Since the lark bird inspired our name, there was nothing better than cute lil’ Lenny to be our mascot. Lenny the Lark reminds us to always take our own path and never lose sight of adventure on the way.
